Welcome to the Pro-FM website
Pro-FM symbolises proactive promotion of professional FM - Facilities Management - as a young profession and as market for support services to the core activities in private and public business - ranging from full management and technical operations of properties to individual workplace services and support.
FM definitions differ from country to country and in various professional environments.
A much used Nordic definition is: "Facility Management is coordinated manangement of all sorts of physical and technologial support to the business' primary work processes: Properties, space, information technology and internal services". (DFM-netværk, Denmark, 1998).
Now a European FM standard (CEN) is approved with the following definition of FM
(EN 15221-1):
"FM is the integration of processes within an organisation to maintain and develop the agreed services which support and improve the effectiveness of its primary processes."
These first two CEN/TC 348 standards, EN15221-1, Terms and definitions and EN15221-2, Guidance on how to prepare FM agreements have now been translated into Norwegian (NS-EN15221-1 and NS-EN 15221-2).
To relate such a standard definition more closely to your own business activities I advise you to develop your own FM definition where you identify your own service needs (services which support and improve) and your own core business ("primary processes") within the general framework of this standard definition, thus giving it an identity which is more easily understood and accepted in your organisation.
Close to 20 years with FM ...
I have worked with Facility Management practical and theoretical tasks for quite a number of years now and have had the pleasure of good cooperation with businesses, educational institutions and other professional environments in Norway, Nordic and many other European countries.
This has resulted in a gratifying wealth of broad experience and extensive professional networks both domestically and across borders.
I have now reached a stage in life when it seems right to concentrate on sharing my experiences with others on a more independent basis and more directly to those who might be on the outlook for advise and assistance.
By doing this I expect to contribute to performance excellence and to further development and recognition of this very interesting and challenging profession.
My range of advise and support is based on own professional experience
Advise and support in OD/BPR discussions, projects and professional development to corporate real estate management and facilities management in private and public sector in the Nordic countries.
